I wasn\'t replying to anyone specifically...more of a comment on how this thread has gone down.

You and some others attacked slunkatron for his post. He stated his opinion and you got mad at him for not identifying that it was only his opinion. We should all know that anyones post is their opinion...thats a given. I think a lot of Buckethead fans are overly sensitive about any criticism towards him. I think we could work on that.

Sure i think a discussion on what songs could be taken out vs which could be added would be cool...

I would nix:
Toy Store (even though its one of my favs of all time)
Metamatic
Foxy lady
Pinch rap (most people would not agree, i know it)
Gorey Head Stump
Soothsayer (ohhhh the horror!)

I would add:
Anything from It\'s Alive
Anything possible to play live from Empty Space
Anything from the HH LE
Anything from Captain EO
Anything from Slaughterhouse on the Prairie

And many more! The man has over 1000 songs to choose from...

He has used the same basic setlist for the past few years (with some minor changes here and there)...i would even have been ok with NONE of the songs in the actual setlist being played in favour of a brand new fresh setlist)

I do think he has it tough though and no matter what he does, he can\'t win.  He\'s got the fans that NEED to hear Jordan, Soothsayer, Jowls etc...And then he\'s got the fans that DON\'T want to hear those songs in favour of newer stuff.

There is no right answer here...there is only wishing...and Buckethead is going to do what he does (and well).

I live in Canada and have only seen him 3 times...(twice in Seattle when i lived there). I would go see him in a minute if he came here...or somewhere pretty close, like Buffalo...but if I had spent a ton of money on flights and hotels and such and saw pretty much the same setlists as he was doing in 2006, I wouldn\'t be jazzed. I\'d still be happy to have seen him, but when you have a songwriter as prolific as Buckethead, i expect him to change it up live and not rehash his 2006 shows (with a couple of new tracks).

It doesn\'t make me less of a fan...i\'ve been listening to him since 1998 (which also makes me no MORE of a fan than anyone else)....

For the record, I didn\'t attack slunkatron. Slunkatron and Beelzebob were  going back and forth bringing up the old subject of setlists which made me curious about specifics instead of general ideas.

And I don\'t think anybody poster her is going to question anyone\'s "fan status." Some people may be compelled to question an opinion, others may be compelled to state their opinion at let it stand at that without bothering to explain. Either way is fine if you ask me. I\'m still giving mine a little thought. Thanks for chiming in.

You\'re right stumpdangler. I went back and looked and it wasn\'t you who took an attack stance...my apologies.

Don\'t know that I would change the setlist. Just seems to me that Bucket is making an effort to tighten up the band, pure and simple. I enjoy seeing him with an ipod, but this show was 100% live music, zero backing tracks! That is fresh, imo. Even the nunchuka/dance music was live, which is a first as far as I remember.

Also, *ACHING BACKPIECE* was stenciled on B\'s road crates. Not that anyone here needs to be reminded of his health issues, but naturally, it factored into his set.

The famed \'stretchy\' guitar strap was certainly missed, but I\'m sure it\'s no good for his back, considering the way he used to torque that thing out, playing one-handed with the guitar pushed 2 or so feet away from his torso, strumming the back of the guitar while playing one-handed, and all that fun stuff. All that stuff is pretty amazing flair that makes peoples\' wigs flip and was a significant part of his act.
Just an observation.

Jowaxe: Thanks for clarifying things there, I appreciate that.

Quitness: I really can\'t quibble too much with the setlist either. That\'s what I find puzzling. I hate to say "guess you had to be there" but from my standpoint this show was a big jam session. It wasn\'t a rote reading of the songs.

 Like I said earlier each tune was splayed out and opened up for further exploration. Truly expressive takes on the now familiar themes. It was a joy to witness, for me at least. Youtubers can find fault from a distance, and they always will. Technical problems or whatever aside it was a unique experience, imo.

The "You had to be there" sentiment is true. Its about the vibe...you don\'t notice the small mistakes or question the setlist when you are there...this is all true.

I know the feeling...but the fact is, only a precious few were there and everyone else only has their experience to draw from (YouTube)...

I don\'t care if he made a mistake here or there...he does it at every show...i\'ve seen 100\'s of YT vids where he messes up. The guy is wearing a mask and playing in the dark!

Phy!  Glad you had a kick ass time! Sorry my prediction wasn\'t true about Tonka getting played live--but given the stretch strap elimination (for good reasons) I can see where it might not have had the same pizzaz.  

BTW--Pinchy says "Sure we have the Tonkas in stock, and they\'re alive too kiddo."  Gotta love Pinchy!

i couldn\'t agree more. why put out more than 10 albums since 2006 yet retain such a similar setlist. i don\'t get it. i mean he even uses alot of those songs when playing live w/ Praxis over the years.

i love jeff beck too but he does the same thing. how many times can you see someone play the same songs?

maybe i just likes more variety than most??  i\'ll still likely go to the show when he gets to my town howeva!

i am going to add to what i said earlier since this thread seems to be staying on that topic.

another reason i think we arent seeing more of buckethead\'s newest albums live is because the set up he\'s in now wouldn\'t work for a large portion of his songs (including the newer stuff).  to successfully pull of songs from the holiday album for example, and a lot of the older stuff too, i think buckethead would have to be accompanied by a metal drummer and a rhythm guitarist in addition to monti on bass.

pinch is good, but he\'s more of a rock drummer.. monti usually programs some pretty sick metal beats, so basically a drummer that skilled and that style.  also, the added depth of two guitars would be (and is on all the album versions) really sweet. and a lot of buckethead\'s songs require two guitars anyway.

i really like the trio lineup for the songs they are playing now. but in the future to really showcase buckethead\'s solo work live i would like to see the lineup with the metal drummer, rhythm guitar, and bass.

I think it\'s true what somebody (can\'t remember who, sorry) said about playing in a live band - he\'s just working on tightening it all up. I love the change, but I oddly loved the iPod set-up. It made Buckethead seem more of a loner when he was playing. Literally just him and his audience who have come to see him play. He has creative freedom up there. I think this tour is showing he can be in a band and pull it off. From the videos I\'ve seen, they look tight and play well together. I too would like to see a more varied set-list, what with the amazing albums he\'s released over the past 10 years. It\'s also about what works live. We can say something off Inbred Mountain would be amazing to hear live, but we\'d probably need around 7 or 8 musicians to get the real deal and not just some cheap riff over drumming and basic bass.

Honestly, I would enjoy seeing bucket with a full band that could pull off what the songs need to reach their full live potential I\'m talking more than just drum & bass, or Ipod. Also, It seems like he doesn\'t practice anymore, and doesn\'t remember the songs fully. I would kill to see buck in the praxis days. Now... I\'ve kinda lost interest in seeing him live.  The bands he does play live with just sound empty, the Ipod was about the same. Not to mention all of the mistakes.
