i hate to say it but i agree w/ djhash - this sounds like the praxis version of "enter the chicken".  there ARE some good tracks but many are "run-of-the-mill" & if i heard it on radio i wouldn\'t believe it was these great players involved.

nothing on it approaches transmutation.

it\'ll probably grow on me some but wow, all those vocals!!

Yeah, it is a solid album, but way down on my list of favorite Buckethead albums.

It\'s not the commercial aspect of it that turns me off, it\'s the record itself. This album is just all over the place, too many styles and no unifying theme to the material.

For the record, I actually love Enter the Chicken, but I don\'t like Profanation much at all. So for those actually relying on some of these comments, don\'t base it entirely on comparisons to Enter the Chicken. This record is very heavy on hip hop/DJ sounding material and doesn\'t bear much resemblence to any former Praxis outings.

That\'s the only thing typical about any Praxis album.

My point exactly, does it HAVE TO resemble things that came before it? Isn\'t it just refreshing that it has its very own sound?

I think so.  8)

It doesn\'t have to, but there should be SOMETHING consistent about your sound, no matter how experimental you are.

As far as sounding refreshing due to its own sound, that is a valid point. However just because it\'s an experiment doesn\'t automatically make the results good, no matter how much work was put in to make it successful. If I made a great metal tune that won much admiration and then made a country tune as an experiment, I would rather hear a genuine reaction to each tune rather than "Oh, good for you for trying new things". There is such a thing as a failed experiment, not that Profanation was one.

Unless you\'re giving merit to the music simpy for the fact that it tried something different rather than the actual music itself, I can agree that new sounds can be refreshing.

I think the music is fucking baddass!

Remember....we\'re talking about a Bill Laswell creation here.  Just think about the multi faceted recordings by Material for instance. There\'s nothing consistent from one release to the next, except for exceptional music which may or may not reflect or partially incorporate the current musical trends not only from the USA but globally.

When is a US release date?

beelzeBob

There is no US release date. It is only available in Japan. Try Downtown Music Gallery or cdjapan.
