Just back from TIFF, where I didn\'t see D.O.A.P., but did get a big charge out of the Michael Moore interview with clips from his new projects, cheered on the Dixie Chicks documentary "Shut Up & Sing" and was staggered along with the rest of the viewers at Spike Lee\'s "When the Levees Broke".  All excellent productions, and I am SO going to see Moore\'s next 2 films, both "Sicko" which is due out next summer and the one about the 2004 Slacker Uprising.

Strangely, everyone in the U.S. of A. appears to "love America", but the 3 aforementioned seem bent on actually doing something positive about things that aren\'t going so well for it. Sounds like a plan.

Other films we saw (my opinions):
Journals of Knud Rasmussen (beautiful, very dark theme)
Borat Cultural Learnings of America... (somewhat amusing)
A Good Year (entertaining)
For Your Consideration (very funny: watch out, Oscar, you\'re being stalked )
Copying Beethoven (wonderful music, great characters, thin storyline)
Alatriste (Viggo Mortensen in Spanish, SEE THIS!!!   )
Snow Cake (my personal favourite of the week)

I believe Alatriste will be released late this year in the States. Try to read some of Perez-Reverte\'s novels in this series before you see it, because it will probably help. It improves on additional viewing (I attended both screenings & got much more the second time). Setting is 17thC Spain, an empire in decay. Afterwards, see if you feel like drawing any parallels. The director & cast didn\'t do any of that, but it certainly suggested some to me.

phartacus, I think you may have taken D.O.A.P. in a way I did not.  It is merely a "what if" type movie, I think.  Not a "go do this, here\'s how" type of movie.  

I\'m also proud to be an American and I love the U.S.A.  I just feel that the current administration is not doing our country any favors right now.

 And it makes me really angry that my big brother can\'t get treatment at the VA hospitals in his area because they are so underfunded and overwhelmed by the troops returning from Iraq, etc.  I\'m comfortable with my position simply because now my brother, who served in the NAVY, a real flag waving type guy, feels the same way.  Our troops are being injured and then they come home and the military tries to abandon them.  That\'s not right, our President knows it occurs, and nothing is done.  I was taught "you take care of your own"  and our country isn\'t.

You know, I don\'t care what a persons views are on this forum, but I do care about the quality of their arguments. Yours have hit rock bottom. Calling people names serves no purpose and does nothing to persuade anyone to your point of view. So your participation is pointless. Is the best you can do to call people disgusting or inhuman, demonstrate otherwise or your done here.

          Sure calling people disgusting human beings could be considered callous but I honestly dont know how else to describe a thought process that thinks it is ok for 44 million innocent children to be murdered in the womb. Combine that with the breathless anticipation of a film that glorifies the murder of a man who was elected by millions of people clearly indicates to me that some of the posters on your board celebrate this "cult of death". If you can come up with a better term to describe this then I\'d love to hear it.  
           Now being such a huge fan of yours I find it very unfotunate that you would threaten to ban me when the poster "DragonSon" (in a post found here http://www.tdrsmusic.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=politics;action=display;num=1139524600 ) can take a broad brush and paint every american as being greedy, complicit in creating bird flu, and in a round about way question the humanity George W. Bush with no condemnation or rubuke from you.    

Maybe you didn\'t notice but I banned Dragonson long ago. It\'s precisely because you can\'t come up with a better "name" as you call it, or argument to buttress your views than to call people names, not your views that I have a problem here. Good god man, you know that. I was alright with you up till your last few posts. You want to mix it up with the people who post here, I got no problem with that, but I won\'t pay for the bandwidth to have people toss crap back and forth. Not being able to fathom peoples thought process is a two way affair. It seems your not here to post your views and discuss the merits of them, your just mad at the other posters for theirs. The internet is full of forums with miles of posts back and forth with worthless name calling crap , I don\'t want this to be one of them.
Anyone can discuss anything here till they start name calling. I told Dragonson to stop name calling and that I respected his intelligence enough to know the difference between discussion and name calling. When he demonstrated he didn\'t, I banned him.

Aww, that would be a shame. It is almost refreshing to see someone with whom you can\'t meet eyes come to the edge of loosing their faculties due to the lack of logic in their thoughts. It almost lends credence to the other side of the argument all by itself (regardless what the tact of the discussion is)

Here are the last five generic ballot polls of registered voters:
USA Today / Gallup (9/17): 51% D--42% R
AP-Ipsos (9/13): 51% D--39% R
Pew (9/10): 50% D--39% R
ABC (9/7): 50% D--42% R
Gallup (9/7): 53% D--41% R

The five-poll registered voter average from these polls is 51.0% D, 40.6% R, with very little variation among the five polls.

So lets see how this all works out. 51% of the US population is Democratic in their political beliefs and in your mind this equals liberal and liberal is what again? Oh yes, WORSE THAN A NAZI! And what exactly is a country other than a group of people under a common political banner (our flag). So, yep. I guess I can see just how much you love this country.

I suspect I am simply playing to your sarcasm but anyway, I am thinking that all these polls say is that people like pharty love our country because of the democratic tendencies of the majority of its inhabitants. We love our freedom and want to keep it. Some of us simply have difficulties drawing the line from the points A to B. I would submit (hopefully not under coercion) that the concept of maintenance of freedom as predicated on its reduction is fundamentally flawed (duh).

What do you people think? Does pharty have the right idea when he says he loves America? I think yes. I think he is merely in need of guidance to aid him in understanding why he feels the way he does.

Oh, and BTW?! Don\'t you think smart is a silly thing to call a person? I have been lucky enough to have known a few very wise people and maybe they have imparted a small bit of their knowledge on me. Does this make me smart? Nope.

Not being sarcastic at all!  But whether or not you\'re smart, I sure as heck didn\'t know what those polls said!  So, really, thanks for making what they said clear!    LOL!  Or it could be from when I was a kid and was bad at math.  Maybe now I see numbers and my brain shuts down?  Who knows?  

I don\'t know about anyone else but I know that I love America because I can agree or disagree with another person.  It\'s my right as a citizen!  It\'s not like that in a lot of places.  So I feel blessed for where I was born and raised!

Ok, never mind, after reading and re-reading I get it.  You must have been typing to fast the first time... Yes, very fundamentally flawed!  
And yes I do not doubt by the heated, venomous, and vehement comments of Pharty that he does indeed love his country.  But I suspect he will never understand that a country that allows for and sometimes embraces our opposing views is what makes it indeed great.  And like you so eloquently stated: when those freedoms are stripped away under the guise of maintenance, we must fear, not the country, but for it.

As for the numbers game, I guess we will find out shortly.
