this landed in my emails today and i had to pass it on - if it offends anyone, i\'m sorry - but i just enjoyed the hell out of it... in a sad and ironic way.

[glb]Dear Fellow American or UnAmerican - I urge you to take a moment and watch the following filmstrip at http://filmstripinternational.com.

Be sure to have flash enabled and your speakers turned on. You may also want to make sure your right wing hosebag boss is at lunch.[/glb]
Peace.

Thanks for the entertaining link gkg   8)

And thanks for giving me the opening I was looking for. Yesterday I was listening to the radio when Sublime came on. I really felt a loss when Brad Nowell left us with some much work incomplete so when I hear some I dig it. Anyway I was pretty much stupified when I heard "I don\'t get angry when my Mom smokes \'BLEEP\'". I sat in my car shaking my head saying "unbelieveable; just what did that accomplish?! I mean swear words? Well, OK that is one thing; but, what was that?! Anyway, I came home later that evening and my daughter was watching "That 70\'s Show" and well if you don\'t know it plays on Fox. Well anyway I only peered at the screen for a few minutes and in that short time there was a scene where some people (teenage kids) were sitting around in a very smoked filled basement all supposedly stoned out of their minds and laughing up a storm.

So I was just wondering? WTF is this message eh? Just what is this message? Think over what I am asking and if you don\'t know the Sublime song give "What I got" a listen and then come back and please explain to me. I see more and more of this all the time. I suspect the Superbowl deal was all staged to occur but not as a mechanism to raise ratings. Push dem Holy buttons and watch\'em stir huh? Next thing ya know we can do all sorts\'a fun stuff......

if you\'re asking me to explain what on earth people are thinking when they try to dictate what people can and can\'t see or say - i\'ve no clue.  i agree, you are on the money, there is no logic in saying you can\'t say this but you can show or imply that, you can\'t do this, but you can say or imply that.  from my point of view, either it\'s a topic appropriate to the timeslot/venue or it\'s not - and if it is then show and discuss it appropriately and not with bologna terms and cutsie crap.

i\'m anti-censorship, pro-appropriate time/venue guidelines.  that brings to mind the movie we went to see - we went and saw A History of Violence last night, we\'ve been seeing reviews that said it was "gratuitously violent" but i have to tell you i see much more graphic violence on CSI and the few other network shows we periodically watch than that movie had, and as for that "pornographic" scene on the stairs - there was a hell of a lot of passion, but very little "sex" - nice bare ass shot or two of both actors, but you see that in a soap commercial for godsake.  in fact in the AXE commercial you see the blurred nude body of a guy and the steam print of a woman - that\'s more lewd to me than the passionate love making on those stairs.

i have no idea what TV people are doing - other than trying to handle the vocal minority of prudes while answering their audiences\' cries for "more realism".

in reality - people swear and they always have.  in reality, people have sex and they always have.  in reality, pot is safer and healthier than tobacco (that\'s not saying it\'s as safe as mother\'s milk, but hey, not much is).
Peace.

Quotein reality, people have sex and they always have.

OMG! Is this for real ?! I heard someone talking about it once.....

Really though you said

"in reality, pot is safer and healthier than tobacco (that\'s not saying it\'s as safe as mother\'s milk, but hey, not much is)."

This was not my point. I realize that Sublime had its problems and alot of their music is centered on drugs but this was my point;

The line that was bleeped out was about as ANTIDRUG as Sublime could be. If you know the song then you know what I am saying. So again, just what is the message here?

BTW for what it is worth, I am a proponent of sobriety. I am and I expect it of others. I am also a realist so...

The real message is that they don\'t pay attention - they have machines that hunt for specific words and bleep them, regardless of context - that\'s what I mean about appropriate usage, they don\'t think about what the song says, they think about not broadcasting specific words, no logic involved.

Well, so long as you\'re a realist.  If sobriety is the medically sound thing recommended to an individual, then that is between them and their physician.  I am a proponent of moderation - generally for most people extremes are difficult to maintain and often unhealthy in the long run, and sobriety is an extreme.
Peace.

Owwww, I knew this would draw critisism it\'s  8) though. And I say whatever works for you is right in your time and place.

QuoteWell, so long as you\'re a realist.  If sobriety is the medically sound thing recommended to an individual, then that is between them and their physician.

My choice and my choice only. As I said, I expect the same from others. Does that mean that a drink or two is an absolute bad thing? Nope. It is when the drink leads to the case that an issue arises.

Quotefor most people extremes are difficult to maintain

But some are far to easy to attain and some seem to retain themselves. If moderation works for you I am behind you 100%. I think there has been enough research to tell me that my chosen lifestyle is not that great for stretching the years but at least I will remember what it was when it flashes before my eyes. Maybe my alternatives are not as open as others? Don\'t know; blame it on the \'jeans\'  ::)

Peace.
