I can understand why some people dont like politics, because it\'s the most blundered profession.

You want to know why?

Because politics is so essential, that\'s why prudence & responsibility are important moral values.

its probably because people like you make inane ramblings about who knows what, or in the case oldfolkie wish death on elected leaders, or me who is also hyper partisan throwing out sarcastic posts. or you could just chalk it up to good old fashioned apathy.

It\'s why I don\'t take any particular stance on anything that could spark an argument.

It\'s hard with music though.

I agree.

Politics should be like Music; concern for Independency & Synchronization.

Politics are by nature false, an attempt to make people like you without looking too closely at your plans and actions. The alternative? To my knowledge, nothing. People have a tendency to have to like you before they listen to you, leaving those who are brilliant but don\'t present themselves well to not have a chance in an election. People are just shallow by nature.

politics takes investment - not financial but of time and interest...  it also takes the realization that you are asking human beings to carry out the duties of government.  one view of the apathy in the country is that it has become so muddied with innane shock-jock sound bites, that the public has lost interest.

that\'s amusing because the media uses those tactics to try and elicit interest.  while it may do so in the short term for a newscast, it does drive folks away from the deeper functions of a good citizen - investment... one must research the issues, research the positions of those who would lead, and one must learn to be a judge of character - then comes the further investment of trying to engender interest in others.  unfortunately, far too many folks have grown accustomed to the notion that someone else will take care of things... someone else will handle the hard and messy tasks... that seems to spill into the hard and messy task of sifting the wheat from chaff in politics.

the citizens\' abdication of their voters\' rights - that\'s a sad pity in our lovely country.
Peace.

whoah, wtf could i have been wrong about you? This really has me puzzled cause the catalyst of all our bickering comes from your bashing bush over the hurrican katrina debacle. It was my position all along that those folks were lazy sloths for a) not getting the fuck outta there before the storm hit and b) for depending on a government that is notorious for screwin shit up.

um, pharty - that wasn\'t directed at you hon... i was thinking of all the folks who think the way a girl i used to work with does.  she\'s a self proclaimed \'undecided non-voter\' who stated she felt no desire to form an opinion because others would decide what direction the country went in anyway.  not really anything to do with you and your response to my Bush Bashing ways.
Peace.

Politicians should be like Lifeguards. In my over 30 years of being a waterman I have seen numerous rescues. I have even been saved a couple times myself. Lifeguards don\'t care if you are black/white, young/old, rich/poor, conservative/liberal, male/female, tourist/local. They put themselves in harms way to do what is best for the people in trouble. I know I am simplifying this but if politicians were lifeguards, maybe more people would like politics?

oldfolkie

Nice thought, Duckhead.

Unfortunately, lifeguards are also in service to other people, and if there is one thing I have consistently observed about politics, it\'s that many (if not most) of the people who enter it do not do so in the spirit of public service. They would much rather be public masters. It\'s a short step from there to tyranny.

In my opinion, a lot of trouble could be saved by preventing anyone who wants to hold public office from ever doing so. Ethically at least, we\'d probably be better off taking a list of names (like the phonebook for instance) & making a random selection.
