This is too much, my brain is melting! What next?
A thirteen hour long show, in Disneyland. You heard it here first!   ;)

I want to buy the full set, but I know I can\'t afford it right now, I\'m gonna have to do it like 2 discs a month.

Travis, do you know if there will be any differance if you buy the full set at once, or get it piece by piece?

I\'m not sure what to say here. I think it\'s a bit unfair to place such a mystery up for sale with no clues as to what exactly it contains. In a way this makes me feel like designer label shopping - buying it for the name.

I don\'t think I can justify this one to myself, sorry to say.

Yeah, I agree. $200 isn\'t chump change for anyone, and there\'s not even a playlist, track lengths or anything, not to mention what style or styles he\'s playing in. 13 cds worth of Blueprints or Kaleidoscalp-type fragmented dissonant material would be a stretch for even the most open-minded bots, but then so would 13 cds of Electric Tears, as much as I love it.

With the Thanatopsis cds you give us an idea of what to expect (especially with Chicken Noodles and Gorgone).

Is there ANY WAY to get an idea of what on these cds, or even better, what\'s on EACH cd with a tracklist? It must cover a range of styles and I\'d like to focus on buying stuff I REALLY like than stuff that\'s so-so (obviously).

Was all this done during his time off since October, or is this music from his vaults? Are you on any of these, Travis? And lastly, will any or all of these be available for download (which would be more affordable!!).

Travis - redwingfan1234 - just posted the following on TK:

Ok, this is farfetched, but is it possible travis\'s site has been hacked?

Obvious reasons:
1- There are 13 new Buckethead CDs that are somehow shipping before Peppers Ghost
2- There are 13 new Buckethead CDs
3- Individually, each CD costs 20 bucks. That\'s 5 dollars more PER CD than he charges every other day of the week for any other CD. Oh, and there\'s 13 of them.
4- Domestic shipping comes to $6.50. On Travis\'s site, it normally costs $3.00 to ship a single CD
5- Absolutely no information given about these CDs. (Obviously we as fans are pretty much blind as to the style of upcoming Buckethead CD\'s, but this doesn\'t even specify whether each of the 13 is a full length CD, which would seem like an absolute necessary detail to include considering I could buy 480 cans of Golden Anniversary Beer with 200 bucks, which would satisfy my beer needs for a few months).

Less obvious/meaningful reasons:
1- Travis\'s order form has slightly changed. For instance, you always used to be able specify a title for yourself when entering your address (I was always "Dr." Chris, haha).

Can you validate this for us?

Hey, just to let you guys know, I\'m not trying to create havoc here or anything, I just wanted people to be careful. 200 dollars is a freakin ton of money. But, if we can get some kind of confirmation from Travis, then that will no doubt be $200 well spent.

And Travis, could you at bare minimum provide an average playing time for the set? .... pretty please?

Oh, and I was joking about the whole "Tunnel" thing

thanks for providing the info to .tk to Frump. Hadn\'t seen him around in a while.

Anyway, this whole 13 vol Slab thing is such a mystery right now. I wonder how long it will drag out, and if mysterious is just how it\'s supposed to be. Either way, it\'s really exciting.

Just when you think Buckethead is indeed a robot that goes without sleep because he releases two or three albums in a year, he goes and releases 14 albums in the first three months of 2007 :o :o

Maybe the new batch of wedge is re-printed rides? It\'d be otherworldly to have El Stew - The Rehearsal, or Giant Robot NTT, Day of the Robot, etc (x\'s 13)

Hey Travis, sorry to be buggin\' ya but I (and from the looks of things, so could a lot of others) sure could use some more info on these here \'wedges\'. $200 is a bit steep to throw at something you don\'t even know what it really is, so a bit more info on the contents would be most helpful.  ;)

Oh my. I just got back in front of my computer since posting the box set yesterday. I knew there would be a lot of questions but...
I\'ll be posting more here in an hour or so and I\'ll see if I can get some more info.
But first I can say this. It was posted yesterday because it was the right day of the month. Little information was given, (to me) about this. This is not unusual for music that comes from the coop. I\'ll try to answer as many questions that have been posed here as I can, let me see what I can find out.

QuoteI kind of like the mystery aspect of it.  Reminds me of the old days of getting Buckethead stuff.  Anyone remember when CobraStrike came out?  Damn,  yo!  That ripped our skulls off.

Oh, I personally agree that this kind of mystery surrounding these sort of things definitely intensifies the suspense.. but we\'re talking $200 here (if we buy the lot, that is). I mean, if this was one separate album selling for $15-20, I would jump on it immediately. No questions there.

But, being a relative Buckethead newbie and still wanting to get hold of as much Buckethead stuff as possible, I kind of want to find out just a little bit more about it before I go ahead and buy it. If I\'m buying this, I don\'t want to buy a couple, I want the WHOLE THING. Who knows, maybe they\'ll sell out instantly? So, even though I probably won\'t be able to afford it I\'ll probably still buy it anyway. But, like I said, I\'m not going to buy it just because it\'s from Buckethead. Call it an incentive, but I just want to know what I would be spending $200 on. After all, it\'s just not petty cash. At least not to me.

O.K. I just got a chance to read through this thread.

My thoughts are just that, I have no real inside info here but I can give you something as it relates to the practical store part of this.
This is 13 individual volumes, you don\'t have to buy the whole thing. I\'m a bit surprised at how many are talking about doing that.

Why is it $20.00 a CD rather than the regular CD price. Because this is not a regular CD. It\'s hand made, hand burned. The cover is whatever is deemed to be written on it. This is not a manufactured deal, each one is different and will be numbered and monogramed. No two of these will be the same. I have never heard of an artist doing something like this. This is as direct from the artist to the fan as I have ever heard of.

As far as the content, I don\'t know, but the mystery around it is no surprise.
Again, I can\'t speculate because I don\'t want to mislead anyone, I just don\'t know anymore.
My gut sense is this is a conceptual work, a piece of art. It could contain anything. If your uncomfortable about buying something you haven\'t heard or know nothing about then for heavens sake don\'t, wait till you do.

If all you know about it is what has been described and it seem intrinsically valuable to you then that makes sense to me.

I have had so many emails asking "what is it?", "should I buy it?".
Unfortunately I can\'t answer either of those questions.

I have been asked to post the CD\'s and was given what little information I gave you.  Personally I think this is pretty amazing but from all the questions I\'ve received I would just say, take your time and use common scene.

If there are anymore smoke signals from the coop, I\'ll pass them along.

I\'m still very intrigued about the whole concept, though. It\'s neato.  ;D

Thanks for the info Travis, just ordered Vol. 1.  I have about 40 buckethead albums(including Praxis, Thanatopsis, etc.) and I think no matter what this one will stick out at the top just for the fact that Big-B is doing each one.  So I recommend every Buckethead fan to get at least one, if there not lucky enough to buy the whole set.  And hopefully Travis will get more news on them before they ship.

This reminds me a little bit of a description of something I found online recently, I\'d never heard of it until just then.  The recording is dated 1998:

///
this is a personalized recording from bucketheadland. basically back in the day (not sure of the actual date) for $50 you could ask buckethead to customize a cd for you according to genre.  the first track is like cobra strike with buckethead playing over loops, beats, and samples. Wedge 2 is buckethead going off on the bass. the third wedge is from a live primus show, they play tweekers > ballad of buckethead.

1. wedge 1
2. bass wedge
3. live wedge
///

Either way, I\'ll spend at least $20 to get something hand-burned by Big B himself.
Wow.

Quoteman.
The shock of me ordering this whole set with little info has finally worn  off.
And now my anticipation for the set to arrive has set in. Man, this is killing me

Same here, the only exception being that I haven\'t exactly ordered it yet. I don\'t get money until this Monday, and there are two things bothering me about the whole thing:

1) If the money I get will be enough to buy the whole thing. I\'ve got other things to pay off and all, and I don\'t want to get just one or two of these, I want the WHOLE LOT. If I don\'t have enough cash, I\'ll just have to borrow, there\'s no other sollution. :)
2) What if they sell out before Monday and I won\'t be able to buy them? I would be heartbroken, devastated, you name it.. It\'s basically a worst case scenario for me. It just cannot happen.  :-/

This weekend is going to be hell, I\'ll pay off all my bills and stuff as soon as I\'ve got money on my account by midnight, so I can see if I have enough left..

Title: Re: New 13 Vol Buckethead CDs
Post by: mtz on February 15, 2007, 05:32:48 pm
i\'ve got to figure that he\'s burned a bunch of sets before ever making the announcement and could theoretically keep burning as they sell until he decides it\'s enough.  it\'s limited edition but it doesn\'t say of how many.  could be thousands could be hundreds.  either way i\'ve got mine coming and i can\'t wait to check \'em out.

Well, I just decided that I couldn\'t live with myself if I didn\'t order all of these 13 cd\'s in one go.. so I did!  ;D

I borrowed money to (which I will pay off this monday) just so I could buy this potential gem, and come monday I\'ll more or less be flat broke but who cares?  8)

At least I\'ll be jolly as heck once this baby is shipped and even more so when it pops into my mail box. And I don\'t have to deal with the worries and anxieties over this thing selling out over the weekend. Now I can just relax, enjoy it and wait for February 21st.

I don\'t think anyone but Buckethead knows what\'s on these discs, or what the artwork will be. I mean, not even Travis knows, so they are still a big mystery. That is all part of the intrigue, no doubt.

But from what I understand, the artwork will be more or less unique for each cd. Looks like they will be handdrawn or something, and I believe Travis said that no cd would be like any of the others, at least as far as the artwork goes. Whatever comes out of the fascinating mind of Buckethead at the time, I suppose.

It\'s amazing though, isn\'t it? We don\'t know anything about the music or anything on this, but eventually we all come crawling and ordering this thing. I mean, $200 is a big sum of money, but I guess it all boils down to the fact that we all know that Buckethead is an instant guarantee for quality music.

My god this is amazing, I really want the whole set! However there is one problem for me, I\'m 17, I don\'t have my own credit card, I ask my sister or parents to order these things for me, but I\'m 100% sure that none of them would ever say, OK, go ahead and order $200 worth of Buckethead CD\'s and pay me back later. They don\'t like the fact that I order Buckethead CD\'s at all, let alone $200 worth. I\'ll see what I can do to convince them... But the problem is I don\'t know how long this thing is going to be going on.

Travis, do you have any idea if this is only a limited time offer? Or will Buckethead likely be releasing these for at least a year. I think I\'ll have to work overtime in order for my parents to let me order this anytime soon.

I\'ll keep my fingers crossed... Hopefully I can get my hands on the set before it\'s too late.

That\'s my fear exactly, I don\'t think I could live without the entire set, but I know my parents won\'t let me buy it all at once. If it was over the period of a year, 1 disc a month, I\'m sure it wouldn\'t be a problem. But buying 13 discs at once is literally insane. I just hope Travis will soon know when the set will be discontinued....

I am so exited about this new set. I wonder where buckethead had the time to make these though. I mean, 13 discs is ALOT of material and he just got off tour not that long ago (like december...?) i am amazed at how fast he can create these masterpieces!

So far i have bought "I","N"

By the way, i saw that they are limited edition...just how limited, does that mean that if i don\'t buy them in the next month they will be gone?

so i am assuming you mean there is 13 new cds of material. they are the only new realeases, only each customer gets unique artwork for their copy. its not like each cd is origional material only for that customers copy is it? i dont think so but its a teensy bit vague.. :)

QuoteI am so exited about this new set.

There\'s always the possibility that Buckethead didn\'t record this just recently as well. He could have recorded some stuff just now, maybe stuff that didn\'t fit onto Pepper\'s Ghost, but there could also be unreleased tracks from earlier in his career on here as well. Sort of left-over songs that didn\'t make it onto any album. This could be the "odds and ends" stuff Travis was talking about earlier. Just because it says that all 13 cd\'s will have original music doesn\'t mean that it\'s brand new.

As for your question about the fact that this is a limited edition offering, Travis said a few posts back that you don\'t have to worry about this running out any time soon. It\'s limited edition, but he implied that you can order 1-2 a month and still be able to buy them periodically. So, from what I can tell, they won\'t be around forever but they will still last quite a long time. They won\'t run out next month, that\'s for sure.  :)

From what I understand, and I\'m sure this is the case, the artwork for each cd will be totally unique. They will more or less feature whatever Buckethead can think up at the moment, if I understand correctly. Other than the artwork and all that stuff, the 13 cd\'s will still contain the same music as anybody elses. Personally, I think it wouldn\'t be fair if some people got a particular track and some didn\'t, but then again: you never know with Buckethead.

Bottom line, if you ask me: the artwork will be different for each person, the music will be the same.

Thanks to Travis\' postings, i have decided that i will be able to hold off on buying the whole slab untill i can afford it, as right now is just not a good time for my budget. I\'m now over the "In Search Of" OOP fear, and i feel like i will most certainly own this set in the upcomming months.

QuoteYou will be perfectly safe to order 1 disc a month. Really it was never intended to be a box set but a collection of CD\'s, collect them trade them, so the rug won\'t get pulled out that fast.

This is a really, really cool idea. TRADEABLE BUCKETHEAD CDS. It\'s like Pokemon. But.... more disturbing.

I just went through and read this entire thread because I couldn\'t believe what I was looking at. I need to order at least one of these, to know what it\'s all about. But... I definatly can\'t afford much else. $200 is way too steep for me. I\'m struggling finacially as it is.

Darn you Buckethead! Your shredding will be the end of me.

Haha. Yeah, this is like Buckethead\'s version of Pokemon alright. It\'s BUCKETMON! Gotta catch \'em all!  ;D

Anyway, like Travis said a while ago, you can collect one or two a month and still be able to get the whole lot without having to worry about them running out. Seems that Buckethead is going to have to do a lot of cd burning and artwork designing, if you ask me.  :D

Me, I was so paranoid that these were going to run out that I spent more money than I actually could afford in order to get the whole lot. Also, knowing myself as well as I do, I\'m guessing I would have been climbing the walls if I couldn\'t listen to them all at once, so it\'s probably for the better anyway.  :)

Ha ha, that\'d be a treat.

Red Hot Chili Peppers: "Do it."

Buckethead: "No."

RHCP: "Take off the stupid mask!"

BH: "I don\'t wanna."

RHCP: "How are we supposed to let you in our band if we don\'t even know who you are? You could be... Michael Jackson, or something!"

BH: "B-but... I brought you slaw."

RHCP: "That\'s it, we\'e going with Arik Marshall!!"

Buckethead with RHCP\'s

THAT WOULD RULE,

I forgot about him auditioning for them, I was thinking of Guns N Axl Roses, Ozzy Osborne, but Flea and Chad and Anthony and Buckethead would RULE!

Hooking up with Bootsy tapes too!

I have a couple of theories on what he is trying to say with these cd\'s.
1. Maybe he has seen what people are paying on ebay for some of his out of print material, and he figures if fans are willing to pay so much then why not give them something that is worth all that money. Like 13 cd\'s instead of  just one.
2. It is said that Bucket doesn\'t give out many autograghs because he is so shy. I found this out for myself when I tried to get his autogragh at a show in Little Rock, Ar. and failed in my attempt, but he did give me a Star Wars Yoda action figure. With these cd\'s being so personalized, it\'s like he is wanting to make up for that.
Either way, I think it is great. Thanks Big B.

Is that why he wears a mask in the first place?  Because hes shy?  I just thought it was a gimmick that made him stand out.  Although his music alone makes him stand out.

oooo kaaaaay.....

i just wanna say thanks again travis and bucket for doing something...well...so,uh..TRIPPY!!! i don\'t think anybody\'s asked this yet,but for those whom ordered the full set,can they expect 13 cds in the first shipment or 1-2 a month?i\'m just wondering since you mentioned that the ammount of folks buyin up the full set was a bit eye-popping if bucket will have a rough time trying to burn n decorate 40 or so full sets along with single discs--that could easily be 550-600 discs, whew!!!all i\'ve got to say is this:travis, whatever you do don\'t let bucket give himself hand-muscle problems by making these, haha,we need those digits to create more merry trippings in the future! ;) ;D ;D ;D

I wonder... Do you think that since Buckethead is supposedly putting artwork and stuff on each of the CD\'s that maybe we could request our names be put on one of them when we order. When you order there\'s always that little box where you can type in special requests on the shipment, maybe if I say, write Kurtis on disc 1 I might get it... Probably not, but that would be cool.

One thing that we\'ll have to do when some of us get our shipments is compare our covers. Someone should start up a thread that everyone can post their pictures of their 13 discs and compare them with others, since all of them will be different. So close to being able to afford it but not quite there, the anticipation is killing me. well on the bright side I\'ve made $120 from overtime just for this. I worked two 11 hour days for this!(I know it\'s sad, but I\'m only 17, I work in a grocery store...)

thats a good idea.. I think it would be wicked to see the differences in artwork..I\'m hoping one of the 13 discs is the long awaited disney material.. if not oh well...or perhaps even more del rey collaboration stuff..or hell even some "that one guy" collaboration which I believe was the guy buckethead toured with.

I\'m sure Buckethead\'s Disney album will not be part of "In Search of the", I think he would want to make that release a bit more special with better artwork and such. I\'m sure that release will be a bit more "high quality" as far as the packeging goes, if you know what I mean.

hey travis, when you click on the cds it says ships the 21st but at the front of the store it says available the 23rd. Does this mean the pre-orders ship today, and the cds will officially be available 23? or are they being shipped the 23rd.
Thanks.

hmm my response to that is that we really have no idea what to expect what the packaging will be like for "In Search Of The..." I mean we know its homebrewed but still we just don\'t know it could be anything..heck some of them could have some wicked color paint or some wickedly drawn sketches from buckethead himself or maybe some stuff thrown together by p-sticks.. we can\'t shoot down the packaging just yet..its just as a mystery as the disks content is... which makes this all the more exciting.. honestly the packaging doesn\'t matter to me its the material hehe

just my two cents...

The suspense... almost...unbearable...  arrrgggghh!!!

Seriously though, I really just can\'t freaking wait to find out what these discs are all about.

And I really hope they\'re not all gone before 6 mos. or so is up!  I have to take the "payment plan" option of getting 2 per month or so if I want all of them...

It\'s not easy being a Bucket fan right now.  But something tells me it\'s about to get real nice.    8)

I\'ve only made it 1/2 way throught the first disc "I", cause it\'s just amazing!!  so far, great sound quality!

Track 1. about a minute long; sounds like he\'s murdering his guitar!

Track 2.  almost 15 min; amazing meandering solo, really cool bass and beat behind it

Track 3. about 3 min; sounds like Pop.Override, very jazzy! who knew??

Track 4.  2 1/2 min long; sick bass riffs - who\'s playing bass on these tracks???  some random guitar noises

Track 5.  about a min.; synth/keyboard stuff - disney-ish maybe?!

Track 6. 15 min! classic Buckethead - haven\'t heard it all the way through, like EMAC crashed into CSS

Track 7. 1 1/2 min; keyboard stuff, kinda like what he plays on Young Buckethead in Jas\' basement

Track 8. 5 1/2 min; totally something you would hear floating through the Willy Wonka tunnel!!!

kick ass!!  8)

total lenght for disc 44min and change.

I\'ve read some previews over at TK already, but I really must say that every new "mini review" makes me want these even more!  ;D

I\'m telling you people right now, when I get my full set, I\'ll mp3 them all as soon as possible, slam them into my Creative (shameless plug, haha) and then it\'ll be all I\'ll listen to for months and months.

Well, this and Pepper\'s Ghost of course.. and Crime Slunk Scene as well when I get it.  But mostly I.S.O.T. Most likely. :D
