Title: One less thing to worry about
Post by: Pax on September 07, 2004, 01:30:04 pm
Please Travis,

I have just heard "Envidia" from the album "One less thing to worry about" by Viggo Mortensen. Who ever the guitar player is, I lost my musical heart to her/him.

How can you/we persuade Mr Mortensen to release another edition of this album? This request has probably been made before, but NOW it is serious... ;) I simply must have it. As I am a selfish person I will settle with a copy made just for me... :D

BRIBE him, if you have to and send the bill to me. Give him anything as long as it cost less than $10... :)

Hope you\'ll succeed in your quest, if not I will give all the help you\'ll need...just call and I will be the most loyal supporter you\'ll ever had!

Thank\'s in advance and I am sending you sunny greetings from Sweden.

/Chris

I\'ll be looking forward to that release also.  I can\'t  afford some of the outrageous prices I\'ve seen it go for on ebay..  :-/

I absolutely love envidia, so haunting and beautifully done by Viggo. I think you would find there is more than a passing interest if OLTTWA was re-released. ;) Viggo please have mercy on us. Don't make us have to go to ebay.  :(

Got to say I\'d love to get my mitts on a copy too... :P

[glb]But the man will do as he wishes, not necessarily as we would have him do (*heaves big gusty sigh*)  ::)[/glb]

That\'s the difference in an \'entertainer\' & an \'artist\'--just what hubby & I were discussing this weekend after our visit to Dragon*Con in Atlanta.   ;D

Some folks like to promote themselves, make some $$$, & some look at things from a view of the art (photography, short films, the novel etc.) is the important thing, $$$ is secondary, or, icing on the cake--either way, it\'s personal choice & neither one is in the wrong, IMHO.  ;)  It all boils down to the person & where their taking their talent(s).   :)

Just my $1.01--for what it\'s worth  ;D
Peace,
Bella )O(

Sometimes what\'s old is new again (at least to me)

and buying on eBay is like buying a book from B&N in my opinion, instead of from the publisher (from the author is even better if you can)

I agree, it is a MUST HAVE. I would so much prefer that the purchase proceeds go to the MASTER BEAT POET of our generation, rather than some greedy ebayer.  8) After all it\'s Viggo\'s work, why shouldn\'t he be the one to benefit? :o

Just in case, should the MASTER read these posts, please, please, please PUBLISH MORE!!! :-*

if you dig beat and street poetry - check out SA Griffin and the many people in his links.  he\'s fabulous and they are a wonderful bunch of free minds and strong hearts.

http://www.mindspring.com/~sagriffin/nakedman.html

and check out your independent bookstores - they carry cool stuff and usually have a good handle on who\'s around.

Oh Yeah, I too would grab up a copy of One less thing to worry about. I have a few other of Viggo\'s works and really get into them, they just continue to grow on me more and more.
I sure hope more copies become available, or a new release of some selections.
Ears at the ready,

yeah, SA is a terrific poet/actor and his wife, Lorraine, is a wonderful little bird of paradise.

check his different little launch spots into different pages - lots of neat and ever changing stuff going on there.

there\'s a link there to my site, which i\'ll be updating this weekend hopefully.  first weekend home and without guests in a while - haven\'t painted in a month, haven\'t sung in two weeks, haven\'t written in days!
AAARRGGG!!!  :o

Yeah, Life gets busy now and then, but then I enjoy the fun stuff even more. Horses are my thing and I\'m in a group that we do routines to music, so I am always looking for music that will work with the different gaits of the horses and that we can splice together to fit the changes of tempo. Challenging at times but I love it.
Have a great weekend and fit in the things you love.
Enjoyment can be found almost anywhere.
Thanks again for the links.

the only problem with fitting in all the things and people i love - the need to remain employed!  as soon as i make enough money without the corporate role, the happier i\'ll be.

have a wonderful weekend - and hey - sweet Chris Moss, how about some horse riding music??

Hey gkg - Thanks for the link, you\'re right very cool stuff.

Unfortunately, the only "independent" bookstores here are usually Christian book stores. No interesting reading there for me, former catholic school girl. Got all of that I\'ll ever need and more in high school.

Plaid is BAD. :P

guess all you can do is hit the websites - lotsa the good indy book places have sites.  mourning the loss of Midnight Special in Santa Monica, but there are still Dutton, Book Soup, Skylight rocks as well...  websearch is our friend.  ;-)

Thanks I will check those out.

All girls - just not locked up!  I was labeled a trouble maker - cause I had this annoying habit of THINKING for myself! Sheesh! What nerve! Used to get called on the carpet by the Nuns so often.... Especially Senior year, I replaced the flag with my graffitid uniform shoes, and rebelled by wearing penny lofers....... oooooooooo!  :o

96 high school girls, from 8 countries(+/-) , in one dorm, 4 to a room, 6 showers, 8 sinks... and a little nun-run shop to buy "personal items" from.

i was already labelled a rebel from the moment my folks enrolled me - my catholic/hippy parents refused to put me into Catholic catechism classes (i\'d had enough already) and insisted i take the more "catholic" morality classes...  they tried to refuse until dad said then they don\'t need our money very much...  suddenly there was an opening in the general class.

luckily, my most of my nuns were nearly jesuit in their thinking.  i did ok there, even once they found out i had a female lover on the outside (whom i\'m still with decades later).  mother superior said she knew i wasn\'t a threat to her girls.  well....

 ;D  i am in-no-cent but "i have issues"   ;)

Actually I think Travis rather enjoys doing just that! ;)

I own OLTTWA, and highly recommend it to anyone that might find a resource other than, as mentioned earlier, the greedy EBAY sellers that misrepresent and make a fortune off of Viggo M. recordings. :(

There is a site  , SmartArtPress.com , that offers copies of "Live at Beyond Baroque" , for those who have not yet obtained the first edition, prior to the latest follow~up LABB 2. (*See Travis\'s store for a copy as well as "Please Tomorrow", VM\'s new releases).
Enter a  Search for Viggo Mortensen, and you\'ll find 3 titles , including LABB, still available at reasonable rates.

*sighs* what a wonderful phrase; Viggo titles at reasonable rates! (http://www.imgmag.com/images/lyoness/EMOTICONS/musicnote.gif)

My nuns were the Sister of St. Joseph, and not terribly pleasent. They all seemed shrived dries up bitter spinsters (oops I mean Brides of Christ!).  ::)

Live at Beyond Baroque - LOVE IT! Great stories/poets! I had no idea Exene could talk so fast! But the best I think had got to be the last one on disc two - its either Tom Patchett or Jerry Stahl - I think Jerry Stahl about loosing his cherry! I howl everytime I listen to it! I am waiting for Live Beyond Barque 2- Perceval site says delayed until 9/22/04. :o

What is it with all the delays!!! It\'s just torture!! :\'(

Hello Travis,

I am eagerly waiting for some kind of further info about OLTTWA. I know these things take time to settle.

In the meantime you might answer my other question, about who is playing the guitar so beautifully in the song "Envidia".

Thanks alot. :D

Actually I don\'t know who played that guitar part. It\'s Viggo\'s habit as he travels the world to take a small DAT recorder with him. He often brings back cool slices of audio that get incorporated into his CD\'s. As I recall that\'s how that guitar came to be on the CD.

I\'m sure that\'s the case. I probably should have said that recording wasn\'t done here in the studio with me so I don\'t know. Dozens of people contributed to that CD and it was put together like a mosaic. This was many years ago, I have trouble remembering what keyboards I used on Population Override, so I apologize for being a bit dim on the subject.

it happens over time, the mental retention of minutea ceases to be such a big deal.  i just think it would be cool if sometime someone came forward and said, "hey, that was me... glad you liked it"   :)

Thanx in advance

Well I know I\'ve said this before but just to be clear, I know of no plans now or ever to re-release OLTTWA or any other previous Viggo CD\'s. About the best you can hope for is a CD collection of material taken from those CD\'s and issued as just that, a collection of previous material. Some months ago we did finish such a collection, however I don\'t know what the status of it is. I imagine Viggo to be insanely busy with other matters and it\'s on the back burner for the moment. If I have anything new I will be sure to let you know.

Thanks, Travis, that is precisely the information I was looking for.

I read your description of the planned CD (as material taken from several sources) a couple months back, so I understand that it isn\'t actually a re-release of OLTTWA.  That\'s just the name of the thread.

I think you\'ll find that a lot of fans who missed out on this material the first time around & are unwilling to pay inflated prices for the occasional items that appear on e-bay, will be appreciative of your effort.

While browsing around the web today, I came across the following (which is not even up at Perceval Press yet, I checked!):

THIS THAT and THE OTHER

In response to countless requests to re-issue earlier Buckethead/Viggo material, much of which is no longer available, Perceval Press offers this nearly 44-minute compilation of re-mastered selections from five different CDs, along with three new unreleased tracks. Included are selections from One Less Thing To Worry About (1997), The Other Parade (1998 ), One Man\'s Meat (1999), Pandemoniumfromamerica (2003), and Please Tomorrow (2004). The 3 new tracks are called This, That, and The Other. This CD is dedicated to any and all trees, living or dead, inhabited or not. Available December 15. $13.

Travis, are you going to have some? Please?  :-*

Yes, I hope to. This is the disc we were talking about a while back. I\'m a bit surprised by the info since we were keeping under our hat\'s to be sure everything would be ready. So thats a date I\'m familiar with but I\'m not ready to officially announce it till I have the definitive word from PP.

I\'m hoping so, I haven\'t announced it formally because I haven\'t been told officially yet, however, I never do get official word, they usually just show up UPS. So I\'m keeping an eye out for the UPS truck. I\'ll post here as soon as I know something.
