ISSUE: The song I wrote is extremely like the new song bucket just posted to his new site. I sent a copy to wizardbeard a few days ago before the new page with the basketball dude was even posted. I just don\'t want people to think I ripped his song off for the contest. pm me your email if ya wanna hear it. The final completed material will be posted on YouTube.

EDIT: After listening to the new BH song a few more times... My song has some similarities, but it\'s not as bad as I thought. Didn\'t mean to bug. Wizard...?

How funny! Maybe your song is influenced by the new LE track 1.

^^^ no, I have not listened to the new LE for about 2 weeks. I\'m more of a 1989-1998 fan. That time period was my favorite of bucket\'s music. I love the newer stuff too...

Maybe that is due to the everlasting inspiration Buckethead gives us when writing music. I wouldn\'t be so surprised. Once I composed a piece that has a riff sounding similar to Broken Mirror.

On saturday morning (est) I\'ll post a new thread for the contest videos. So be ready to post! Voting will start sunday after all the videos have been submitted.

If anyone is late, PM me the youtube link and I\'ll add your submission to my post, with your name and link so we can stay organized.

@ ASTRALTRAVELER if you\'re reading this, please remove your comment from the offical contest thread and move it here. I\'m all about supporting our fellow bots with nice comments. But please do it here. I just want videos and votes on that thread. Thanks man!

@bornalive - cool friggin video bro! I\'m totally digging the ambient creepy vibe from the video, and your song kicks ass too!

I can\'t wait to see everyone elses videos! this is gonna be our best contest yet!

Bucketdog - Wow! The quality is great and the technical proficiency is amazing. One riff reminds me of Traveling Morgue.

Bornalive - Also amazed by this. The mix of ambient and distorted was really cool and it was awesome how the chord progression got dissonant in the middle of the solo.

I finished writing mine a while ago but have been having trouble recording. Hopefully I can get it done by the deadline.

Wow! is right.  I just watched bornalive.  How very clever.  Hey Bucketdog, we should use this thread for comments on the posted entries or set up a new "comments" thread.  Folks are going to want to respond after viewing the videos.  Looking to you to tell us where to do that, I think you said here is good.

Hey, you\'re not supposed to drink that embalming fluid!

Thanks for the nice comments about my work. I liked everyone\'s contribution. For now, my favorite one is DisembodiedLoaf\'s video. Has Lovecraft been an inspiration for this one ?
Title: Re: Contest update!

QuoteOne riff reminds me of Traveling Morgue.
I listened to traveling morgue and it\'s close, yes. But I did not intend or try for it to be the same and nor did I want it to sound the same. I guess after listening to bucket for so long his influence just sticks with ya; and yeah, this is the tune I was concerned about sounding too much like "crack the sky". But it didn\'t, just a small part or two, barely noticeable.

On another note...I\'m a little disappointed with the turn out of the contest. I thought we were gonna have more people. When I posted the "contest update" thread I got over 10 people confirming their spot... This will prolly be the last contest I host here unless more people post by later tonight. Everyone who has posted so far has great songs, atmosphere and effort. I\'ve listed to all the entries several times and have jammed along with a few too. I wanna see more. I\'m really enjoying the music! And that\'s what this contest is about.

Thank you (everyone) for all the positive feedback. Enjoy the contest.

peace

That riff could also be compared to Woods of Suicides. Natural influence. :) That happens to me. Like I realized one of riffs sounds like Bight of Benin.

I\'m quite surprised that everyone seems to have forgotten about this. Must be the long wait until deadline.

It could be that the contest was launched during a lull here at TDRS. I thought that everyone here really nailed the horror theme. Bucketdog, that is some awesome psycho-shred accompanied by sweet horror clips. DisembodiedLoaf\'s binge sounds like it belongs on Imbred Mountain  ;D. I like the ambience and surreal video that bornalive submitted. It made me thirsty for some bizarre reason... Thank to Viking for still submitting his video, I was bobbing my head the whole time. The quack solo made me laugh.

No matter how big the reaction is on the forum, I still am psyched to be in these contests.

I can see why this is confusing for many of the contestants. I went back in all the threads...and there is not a single post that says "The Due Date for submissions is X"

I thought I saw something about March 5th at some point like someone else said. I thought it was this thread...but i can\'t find that post anywhere. I do see that this thread was edited on Feb 26th to say pretty much nothing though.

All of a sudden, it was "Post your videos"

I\'m glad i got to hear a few tunes though...that part was good.

The due date was pretty clear at time of announcement. It was just so long ago!

I feel like it\'s unfair to wait for everyone to get theirs up. I was freaking out on the 25th that it was almost due. :D It kind of gives those people an unfair advantage because they can listen to our songs while finishing theirs.

My video will be up in about 15 minutes  :)
I worked on it today only...I originally wanted to do a comic book style horror video like creep show, but with work and my bands first gig over the weekend its been tough! ... i had 3 (count em\') Randy Rhodes solo\'s to work on before Sat. plus a huge painting estimate in Wisconsin...all before 6 pm!
anyway...yady,yady yady...
sorry for being a little late.

yea, i haven\'t been following this really closely... its a cool idea, and i think could be really awesome. but none of this contest makes sense... in most contests there are all the rules, followed by a due date. but why was all that deleted in the 1st post? was it in the first post? too bad there couldn\'t be more contestants, seems like people were interested in it.

Not all of us could make videos. My cameras are bad quality and camstudio lags bad on my slow computer.

I was going to film a video of a scary level from the game I\'m making. I did a slideshow of it instead.

Whoa, looks like a bunch of comedians come here too!

TIMELINE -

Bucketdog posts contest details....

People show more interest....

bucketdog allows more time for the prospect of a bigger field because that would be more fun...

Contest update WITH dates are posted to tdrs...

People drop out...

bucketdog allows a little more time for others to fill in...

Contest begins

Now let me ask you...Whats so convoluted about that? This is not the olympics, people. This is a fan made small time contest. So yeah, whatever........................ .

i didn\'t mention anything about a timeline... but somewhere in there it should mention that you proceeded to delete all previous information relating to your contest.

look it really doesn\'t even matter. its your contest.. do whatever you want. i was just sayin, it is a really cool idea with a great prize. so i think if things were laid out, and really clear, i would have been easier for more people to enter.  thus making it more dynamic and interesting. i should mention that the people that did enter, did a great job.
Title: Re: $180.00 Contest discussion thread
Post by: badgerbot on March 02, 2011, 05:52:27 pm
I thought it was just plain weird that so many people disappeared after signing up and even re-signing up.  In my line of work we do far more complicated things with much less hand-holding.  Do we really need training wheels for something this simple?  I would have been happy to email or send personal messages or postal mail or carrier pigeon reminders if folks had wanted me to.  We had three sponsors, each of who could have been reached if there were questions.  Folks just disappeared or forgot.  The contest and instructions and access to the answers to any questions were here the whole time.
Title: Re: $180.00 Contest discussion thread
Post by: Jowaxe on March 02, 2011, 06:46:59 pm
I don\'t think its weird at all that people disappeared. That\'s what happens on the internet...people can commit and not follow through. It happens all the time. The 3 month wait could have been a reason for people forgetting about the contest though. A shorter timeline could have produced more excitement and bots would have been all over it methinks...

But like ants said...its a nice and very generous prize and we got to hear some cool songs and see some cool vids. All in all, a great idea.

And Badger, laying out the guidelines of the contest and leaving it there (and updating the initial post) is not handholding or providing training wheels. That\'s normal contest communication.

One completly developed with video and everything that i based on Buckethead but in fact turned out to be somewhat love song.

The other one is a one minute track, bad taped with 2 guitars and nothing else XD

As neither seem to qualify for what i understanded from the guidelines, i didnt enter but maybe if its a "band" type of song, ill enter that first one ;D

(Most likely Bucketdog is gonna win) ;D ;D ;D ;D
Title: Re: $180.00 Contest discussion thread
Post by: Bucketdog on March 02, 2011, 09:51:53 pm
^^^ Badger contributed to the contest funds. So he kinda does have a say in this regard. Also, Badger is one of the nicest bots on this forum I know...

I wanna make something real clear to those who have an issue with the way the contest has been run. First off, not one of the contestants has complained with the progression of this contest. The rules and due dates were absorbed by the people that it pertained to (the contestants). I don\'t really think it\'s a big deal if you missed out on the minor details PERTAINING TO THE CONTESTANTS.

If you are not contending, all you need to know is the information I have provided in the official contest thread: Pick a bot\'s work you like with a vote and that\'s it! I dunno why people are stressing this so much. I am seriously perplexed.

In closing: please try to enjoy this contest for what it is. A lot of hard work and money has been put into this. This for fun and something extra to do at TDRS and to support buckethead.

Peace and Chicken,
BD

What? He contributed to the prize money...that doesn\'t mean he ran the contest. He did no communication about it save for the fact that he contributed. Bucketdog ran it and him and I have had a PM conversation and as far as I know, we\'re good.

Anyways, why are you all acting like little girls at a tea party? Take the feedback constructively as it was given with class and learn from it. Don\'t take your ball and go home.

Man, you just insulted "most people on this forum"....nice sense of community ya got there. If you were referring to me, that\'s cool...i can deal with that but if that\'s the case, you should call me out directly or PM me. If you really are talking about most people on this forum, then why were you here anyway?

This has gotten silly and out of hand. I provided feedback about the contest and people got all fired up about it and started insulting others. I\'m sorry I didn\'t kiss up to the three of you because you were offering up such a generous prize (which it is).

All I said was that communication and execution could have been better...if you can\'t take that feedback (Bucketdog did by the way), it is no longer my issue.

We\'re all Buckethead fans here and we love his music...everyone doesn\'t have to like one another because that\'s unrealistic in life, but we can try to get along.

Stick around boys...you\'re obviously contributors here...just don\'t take feedback so personally.

Cheers.

^^ to be honest I don\'t think it was the feedback we got that caused the upset. I think we were trying too hard to get the contest back on track in a smooth fashion. And the feedback was counterproductive at that point in time. I\'m not saying your guys feedback was not informal or positive --Feedback is a good thing-- .Just bad timing. We def did not want drama. That\'s for sure.

Quote^^^ Badger contributed to the contest funds.

Peace and Chicken,
BD

I would say that the show must go on ;D ;D

Maybe its the size of the reward that draw many people who werent really interested and just wanted the money, or maybe they completly forgot (cant believe how many times ive forgotten that ive posted something on a thread and then never checked it again)

Its their problem.

If you signed in, and you are still here, then you got less competition. And most likely Bucketdog is gonna win his own contest, hahaha ;D ;D ;D

Now, on the other side now im angry because ive been told that i dont have originality which i agree and im not angry about it ;D but when i was accused of not having common sense, that is something that pisses me off. First of all, i dissagree with not having common sense because no one is gonna say that they dont have common sense, its something that everyone has like a brain, just depends on how you develop it, but at the end everyone has it. Maybe i could be wrong but as you said:

"most people on this forum wouldn\'t know what common sense or originality was if it hit them in the face with a baseball bat"

Im guessing your face must be beaten up my friend to make such hipocritical acusations ;D ;D

^^ Dude, I understand your frustration. I think everyone kinda went nuts and it\'s all good now ;D

I really appreciate how much you have been enjoying my song. However, please be more polite if possible when speaking about the other contestants work. I know they all put a lot of time into their work. I know I did... I spent the better part of 2 weeks working on my song and then another 4 days perfecting the solo to my liking. Then I spent a few days picking movie clips I liked and then spent another 8 hours straight editing and splicing them with my friend. So all in all I have about 108 hours of work into that video I did, including the song and solo composition. And I would be very hurt if someone trashed my work. You\'re a good dude, just try to be a little more considerate 8) rock on!

Peace and chicken,
BD

This has been a great contest, and I enjoy how it pushes me to write music.
Question: How did you guys record your material? Mine was done on a jamman looper, which unfortunatly doesn\'t carry the effects with it onto the computer. It did come out with a kind of muted, underwatery effect, which I like. Any suggestions on recording would be much appreciated.
