Title: Cuckoo Clock is Super Diorama Theatre
Post by: BucketBrother on October 08, 2009, 12:12:49 pm
I remember back in the day before cuckoo clocks was released when Super Diorama Theatre was to be released.  There was a free track to download from the album namely
"Moths to Flame".
Cuckoo Clocks was then released with this very same song supposedly from Diorama.  As far as i am concerned diorama theatre changed it\'s name and artwork and became cuckoo clocks.  Why does it say on wiki that cuckoo clocks is commonly confused with diorama?  Unless Travis or Buckethead tell me otherwise, I have no reason to think that diorama was an album that was never released.

Any thoughts?

Ah yes! I remember this. This is another of the great mysteries of Bucketheadland. The confusion was/is palpable. The artwork for SDT was amazing and the build up to it was substantial but then -poof- nuthin, zip, zilch, zero, nada. I\'m guessing that it was an album that was abandoned for unknown reasons, but remnants of it survived and were used in other projects like CCCoH. And CCCoH was a game changer in Buckethead\'s lexicon. Perhaps he thought it was a more appropriate, bolder introductory statement for exploring new sonic territories.
Just a notion. I\'d still like to hear Super Diorama Theater, though!

If I remember well, Gigi and Laswell were supposed to be on Super Diorama Theater. Maybe some tracks ended on Shine : Lightyears... and maybe the whole album has been released track by track in several other albums and projects.
It would be great to know.

Yes! I was trying to piece together all the talk up to SDT. There was a Gigi song that was supposed to be on there...Maybe it ended up on Enter the Chicken? My notion is that any remnants of SDT were swallowed up or otherwise utilized. Bryan Frankenseuss Theiss did the artwork that I saw and it was fantastic.

The only place I found a cover picture was here: http://www.bingebuddies.com/Promo_index.htm

It\'s next to secret recipe in one of the pictures.

I\'d REALLY like to know what happened to this album. The sample song was moths? I thought it would be an unreleased song named "Cuckoo clocks of hell".

Sure some peices may have ended up elsewhere on other albums but I feel that these were 2 different albums. The artwork looked complete (and which I absolutely loved) and had lots of guests which CCOH didn\'t have. The Gigi and Laswell tracks may have ended up being used on Enter The Chicken or Shine as mentioned above, but what happened to the Extrakd or Pete Scaturro tracks?
Perhaps Catalyst Entertainment was the culprit for not releasing it as Secret Recipe was also eventually not released by them

I\'m not ready to agree with the notion that CCoH is SDT either, but it  is any intersting topic. There was way too much build up for SDT and then suddenly....nothing. One of the great Bucketheadland mysteries!
Record company shenanigans is another plausible explanation. Maybe someday we\'ll know more.

you should find your answer on that one buckethead FAQ that bob made early on, there\'s something there about an album that was never released
