look at the vein on the guitar players hand..
maybe just wishful thinking but I love the residents. I must see them this tour BIg b or not.
I think any guitarist at that age (sorry Buck, not saying you\'re old) has some kind of big vein there because of how often they use that hand when playing. That said too, The Residents have been going for nearly 40 years and while I know they\'ve swapped members (wouldn\'t surprise me if Homer Flynn was the only original one) I don\'t think Buckethead can find the time to record with the Residents, tour with them, focus on his own solo career along with other collaborations he no doubt has planned.
That said, if Buckethead was to play for the Residents I would absolutely blow my top. In a good way. I love the Residents and this would just add so much more to the band. They aren\'t exactly known for amazing guitar playing so whatever the possibility, it\'s interesting.
Well. I think the caption under the picture says live on tour in Europe, Nov 2010. I\'m just not sure about Buckethead being there.
I also just can\'t picture Buckethead in a sequin jacket.
Also, not to be picky, but that guitar looks a little small. Of course he isn\'t going to be using his signature Gibson but it just seems a bit uncomfortable in his hands.
Whoever it is, get a bigger instrument! ;D
That guy is way too short. Just look at the pic, he is like a midget. ;D

the guys is way over 6 foot..
The residents once had Snakefinger as a guitar player for whoever said the rez were not known for guitar stuff.. :-)
But if you watch any videos from 2011 tour u can tell the guitar player is super tall.
I\'ve been hammering Tweedles and The Tunes Of Two Cities lately so I\'ve grown used to more of a jazzy sound. I suppose Snakefinger did turn it around briefly way back when.
The big question is does he move like Buckethead? I don\'t think it\'s him personally, but here\'s a tour video for others to watch.

i would say no way. if someone wants to to the research, ( i don,t) just look at some of the tour dates to see if they interfer with buckets.

Hahaha. This thread is funny. I have been a long time fan of The Residents. SNAKEFINGER is also one of my favorite guitar players. He was a monster, full of style
and a master of the Blues. Here is a pic of myself holding a guitar that used to belong to Snakefinger. A late 60s Messenger Hollow Body, tricked out by Snakefinger. The vintage Gibson pickups he installed sound great. It was used as his main guitar on his " History Of The Blues " Tour. I purchased it several years ago. It is all set up exactly how it was when Snakey owned it. Too bad I am not a lefty !
I have not switched the setup back to a right handed player. ( p.s. The Residents start a U.S. Tour next month, catch a show if you can. They always put on a swell show ).

The guitar playing really does sound a little big like buckets. :)

I\'d love to watch The Residents. A group shrouded in mystery.
Question is, how many of them are original? I\'m not well up on their history and line-up, but why are there only 3 of them now?
A bit off-topic but I\'m going to a Primus show in July and I\'m hoping Les pulls out a Residents cover.

Cool. I hope you have ICKY FLIX ( dvd ). Easily one of the best music dvds ever released. Look into it if you are not familiar with it. That was the reason why we bought our first dvd player ;D
Hard to say about original members . . . but, I will say that the singer is the same ( as always ) and at least one more member is from the original crew. It was three for several years. At this point I do not know, I think two. They have had several different folks help out over the years with the live show / touring. My favorite ( helper ) "member" being Eric Drew Feldman, who has worked with a few of my favorite artists ever . . . including CAPTAIN BEEFHEART and SNAKEFINGER. He has also toured and recorded with Frank Black and P.J. Harvey. He is an excellent bass player and keyboardist.
Don Preston ( who was in Frank Zappa\'s original MOTHERS OF INVENTION . . another all time fav of mine ) . . has also recorded with the Rez ( ESKIMO ).
Fred Frith ( another awesome guitar player ) has also played on Residents recordings ! That\'s probably enough info ;)
lastly, I like when Les/Primus play Residents songs !
This thread has me on a Residents binge ;D
First wedge was Duck Stab - easy choice, then Meet the Residents and now I\'m listening to Not Available. The only other cd I have is the Commercial Album.
I realize I need more Residents - any suggestions on what cds I should look for?

Nice. You have several of the best already ( yeah, I know there are tons of releases, as I have most all ).
First, get the ICKY FLIX DVD. Also the "DEMONS DANCE ALONE" DVD. That tour was awesome. Check out " Freak Show ", " Wormwood " ( cd AND dvd ), "Third Reich N Roll",
The newer " BUNNY BOY " dvd is pretty far-out, anything from the 13th Anniv. Tour ( feat. SNAKEFINGER ), " The Big Bubble " ( and the rest of " THE MOLE TRILOGY " ) . . . umm, I could keep going, but that should do for now !

Which release would you suggest as the best starting place for someone new to the Residents? Duck Stab? Other?

Duck Stab and MEET THE RESIDENTS are ( in my opinion ) perfect places to start. Do it.
So I have to agree with lots of bots about this not being Bucket........
That being said, thank you so much for making me aware of these guys. I had never heard of them before and now I am currently trying to research any information I can find on them. I love what I\'ve read and heard so far.
Thanks.
I love The Residents, have for a while, my favourite wedges are:
Commerical Album
Tunes Of Two Cities
The Ughs
Tweedles
Chuck\'s Ghost Music
Bunny Boy
Love them, fantastic music.

I have been scanning some local music shops for Residents releases, and as expected, most don\'t carry them, but I was able to find used, mint copies of "Tweedles" and also "Animal Lover" at FYE for $17.50 for both, which appears to be a great price. :)
These releases are very interesting musically, vocally and in concept. "Tweedles" took a couple of listens, very intense, to quote Frank Zappa, basically a "movie for your ears".
The packaging is amazing on both, mini-books, with artwork, story and lyrics. Even so, it will take some time to decipher the riddles & meaning (if any).
Heard of a release this year called Lonely Teenager, seems to be a studio album with the Traveling Light line-up. Does anyone more in-the-know have any other information? It took me long enough to hear about The Ughs, haha.
The Residents kick arse, I doubt its Bucket though and its my understanding none of the origional residents are left in the band :-/

Hi ISOT, do you still own the "Commerical Album" CD, and if so, which version is it?
I have come across at least two CD versions on the Internet, a standard release (jewel case) and also 25th Anniversary Special Edition (hardback book, extra songs), but I have never seen an actual picture.
If you have the special edition, any chance of posting some pictures of the packaging? I am curious if the special is similiar to the mini-book packaging used on Tweedles and Animal Lover.
Only standard, sorry, been searching for the anniversary edition myself. It comes with more packaging you say?
QuoteOnly standard, sorry, been searching for the anniversary edition myself. It comes with more packaging you say?
Some information that I have seen on the web for the anniversary edition "Commercial Album" released by Mute in 2004:
"Commercial Album (CDSTUMM243) comes in a CD size hardcover book illustrated with scenes from the Commercial DVD...The book also includes most of the lyrics and identifies the "secret appearances" by name - takes some of the fun of guessing out of it..."I have not been able to find pictures of the release.
I have the 50 song version but no special packaging, it would seem there are 3 versions
The Residents site contains the following details:
http://residents.com/historical/page0/page12/page12.html
I found a reasonably priced "East Side Digital" ( 1988 ) version on the net yesterday, and decided to buy.
It is suppose to have the extra tracks, 50 total. ;D
