Title: Top 5 BH Albums!
Post by: JewliaGoulia on January 04, 2011, 04:33:27 pm
Hey guys! I\'m a new poster to the forums but have been a lurker for a long time.

I\'m working on building my BH collection and my friend recently offered to purchase any 5 BH albums for me (as repayment for some work I\'d done for him.)

Because I am a college student with no income, my current collection is tiny. Right now I own Captain EO\'s Voyage, Electric Tears, Colma, Enter the Chicken, Monster\'s and Robots, Dawn of the Deli Creeps, and the new Untitled "Holiday LE." (oh, and an awesome BH t-shirt - thanks PawnBot!)

My question for you is, aside from what I currently own, what would you chose as the top 5, must-have BH/BH featured albums?

Giant Robot (1994 release)

For me these are all great albums to build your collection off of ;)

What I recommend:

A Real Diamond in the Rough
The Elephant Man\'s Alarm Clock
Decoding the Tomb of Bansheebot
Inbred Mountain
Chicken Noodles

So many others are up there as well that I\'m not listing (Shadows Between the Sky, Pepper\'s Ghost, the three Thanatopsis albums, etc.) but the ones listed are some of my personal favorites. And obviously try and get Population Override if possible, but I doubt you can find that for cheap these days.

Hey JG. Aloha and welcome, it\'s always nice to meet new post-ers. What are your favorite 2 BH cds that you already own? Do you want cds only offered here at TDRS? You absolutely need Giant Robot(1994) or Bucketheadland. They are a couple of the essential BH cds. I have an extra copy of each
(used) and would happily send you one for free. PM me :-)

Wow! SO many different opinions, it\'s going to be difficult to choose which CDs to add to my collection first! :-/

My 2 favorite CDs of my current collection are definitely The Untitled LE & Captain EO. After that comes Electric Tears & Colma. (Crap. . . you guys are right! How can you pick favorites when it\'s all incredible?) I\'m open for any/all CDs where Buckethead is involved! So far, I\'ve purchased my albums off of TDRS but am willing to outsource any that aren\'t available here. Also, thank you for your offer, I\'ll PM you! :)

I am pretty sure I\'d like Left Hanging to be one of my gifted 5 (I\'ve been obsessively playing the previews in the TDRS store.) Population Override & Shadows in the Sky are also sounding amazing (as far as I can tell from Amazon samples/previews.)

Ugh, I guess I better hope I win the Mega Millions jackpot hey? ;)

My top-5

Praxis - Transmutation (First BH-related album I ever heard. Awesome stuff, especially Animal Behaviour and The Interworld And The New Innocence.)

BH - Giant Robot (1994, Sony Japan; one of his most varied albums, I for one love the variety.)

BH - The Elephant Man\'s Alarm Clock (I think this is the most solid album of his \'recent\' releases; some may have more outstanding tracks but this is the most consistent as a whole.)

Guns n\' Roses - Chinese Democracy (I love BH\'s work on this + the whole album\'s pretty awesome. Never was a GnR fan before (or after BH, lol), but this shit is great.)

BH - In Search Of The... (Well, this definitely has variety in it... and lots of it.)

Agreeeeed!!!!!!  That\'s a kick-ass list! It has all of the essential buckethead. If it was 6, I would add giant robot ntt. But as of now, giant robot is a free download. I highly recomend you make an extra purchase or donation to bucket if you download it though...

Thanks to Duckhead my Buckethead collection just got a little bigger!

He graciously gifted me a copy of Giant Robot and some other recording from the In Search Of cd set (also he packaged it all up with an awesome note and some amazing Dr. Seuss stickers.) KICK ASS!

Thank you Duckhead!

Oh, and, PawnBot, that is the shirt you sent me - I live in it!

I can\'t thank you all enough.

I get to pick my first "pay-back" CD from my friend by the end of the month. I still haven\'t decided which to ask for first.

Hello Bots,

Just touching base. Sorry I\'ve been absent from the forums lately, my Mom actually passed away so things have been crazy round these parts.

Anyways, I\'m due to receive my first repayment CD (of the 5 I\'m owed) and I ended up choosing. . .

Shadows Between the Sky.

(Now I just need to hunt down a copy.)

I still have 4 more CD\'s coming my way. It\'s SO hard to choose!

;)

Hey JG - hope you\'re doing well. Long story short is that my grandma passed just days after this past Christmas. She raised me, taught me how to respect myself and others, to be a gentleman and how to dance among other things. I miss her terribly. My deepest sympathies to you and your family. Music has always been there for me to help me through tough times, hopefully it has helped you as well.

Glad to hear you are about to get you BH payment, Shadows may be hard to find right now but it will be back here at TDRS eventually. My suggestion is to hold off on that cd for now and try out Real Diamond in the Rough, Chicken Noodles, Crime Slunk Scene or any of the Thanatopsis albums. Running After Deer is one of my favorite albums and I highly recommend it.

anyway just food for thought - take it easy!

Hey Bots I\'m pretty new to the world of Buckethead myself.

I just became a fan a few months ago and have recieved a few Buckethead albums as gifts from my wife for the holidays. I\'m trying slowly to put togehter a nice Buckethead collection. It was hard at first to even know where to start but i figured things out pretty quickly. I would say that right now this in my top five:

Thanatopsis : Axiology
Thanatopsis : Anatomize
Thanatopsis; Thanatopsis ( I really like Thanatopsis )

Elephant mans alarm Clock
Bermuda Triangle

I have to say though that trying to choose only five is very difficult but Axilogy will always be # 1.I can\'t stress enough how much I love the bucket and Travis Collabs,
recently I found a copy of The Dragons of Eden in a local record shop so I picked it up and that is also amazing, the synth work Travis does on Abstractions of Beasts melts my heart and blows my frigging mind at the same time.

Yay for resurrecting! ;D

It\'s been some time since I\'ve posted on this thread. Gotten a handful of albums since and am (so far) declaring Decoding the Tomb of Bansheebot to be my favorite/the best Big B album and Tales of Dim Eden (off of The Dragons of Eden) to be my favorite/the best song.

With that said, I still need to get more albums like
Elephant Mans Alarm Clock, Cuckoo Clocks of Hell, Inbred Mountain, Albino Slug . . . ya, I\'ve got aways to go!

Definitely second the "Elephant Man\'s Alarm Clock" nomination if you liked Tomb of BansheeBot, they have a similar vibe.

Also, if you haven\'t already (haven\'t taked the time to skim the whole thread), take advantage of the 10 year $5 Thanatopsis deal -- that album is a steal at that price.

QuoteDefinitely second the "Elephant Man\'s Alarm Clock" nomination if you liked Tomb of BansheeBot, they have a similar vibe.

similar vibe? man thats saying something....I would say EMAC is on an experimental funk metal category on its own, and DTTOB as the more mature, more structured version of PG.

^ I can see why you\'d say that AT.  My prior post was more of a recommendation (based on the \'vibe\' I got from her stated preferences) than an assessment in the strictest sense.  I should have made that more clear in my initial post.

So. . . astral_traveler mentioned the song "malaguena" on another thread. I hadn\'t heard of it so I looked it up on YouTube where I then found that it was on From the Coop. I hadn\'t heard of that entire CD (I didn\'t start my discography in order.)

Re: From the Coop. . . I might be dead.  :o The recording is horrible and it was made over 20 years ago but I am completely in love. Disembodied Part 2 - holy shit!

It\'s a fantastic CD. A little 80\'s Satriani mixed with some Yngwie Malmsteen, Blues Saraceno, and a little Stuart Hamm with a whole lot of Buckethead.

I hope I never cease to be amazed by his talent!  ;D

If I am going to suggest albums for you to get what is you favorite albums of the ones you have, that way I can recommend similar ones, Buckethead\'s music spans a wide range of variety so what I think is good buckethead could be different from what you think is good buckethead,

oh and welcome to the forums  ;D

Even though it is not a BH solo album, I think everyone owes it to themselves to check out the Praxis live at Bonnaroo album. Available as a download from Bonnaroo or also as a shortened version as Praxis: Tennessee. Some of BHs best improvisation and live soloing ive ever heard.
