It has most of the same people on Shine.  The constants from this album, Heaven and Hell and Unison are BH, Laswell, Bernie Worrell, and Shin Terai.

The other two albums had Nicky Skopelitis and Robert Musso too.

What does this album compare to in Buckethead\'s music?  I just want to get a feel for what type of music it is.

This CD may also have contributions from Gigi and Nils Petter Molvaer on trumpet

I don\'t have it yet, but will post something once it arrives.  I ordered a few days ago.  I should have it soon.  I imagine it is like Shine - Heaven and Hell and Shin Terai - Unison.  Both of those CDs are melodic.  They are in the middle on the heavy - mellow spectrum.  Not as heavy as EMAC, Pepper\'s Ghost  ...etc, but not as mellow as Colma, Electric tears, Death Cube K, Chicken Noodles.  It isn\'t jazzy like Thanatopsis.  Allmusic describes Unison as Dark ambient and Heaven and Hell as Electronica.

Just got lightyears today... It\'s very similar to Unison and Heaven and Hell in its overall sound- trippy atmospheric beats, droning keyboards, dubby bass lines, melodic buckethead soloing. It it a little more varied sonically due to the contributions of Gigi, Molvaer, Karl Berger, Lili Hayden, DXT, and Aman Laswell (presumably Bill\'s baby, who can be heard doing baby talk on one of the tracks). Really good stuff.

After having listened to the whole CD, it is actually quite different from Unison. Although some of the tracks are in a very similar vein, the range on this CD is much broader. There is some excellent funky/jazzy material... I highly recommend it. The track "Between" with DXT and Bucket is pretty killer. All of the guests make their presence felt at one point or another. Molvaer adds some nice Toshinori Kondo on Quaaludes sounding sax, the strings add another layer to things, and Gigi has some nice vocal work. There\'s one track that riffs on Miles\' "So What." All around excellent work...

You described BH\'s contribution as a more of a guest spot. Is he heard pretty much throughout the cd, or does he only stand out on a few tracks, and if so, how many?

Bucket is heard throughout the cd. It is more of a slow and sweet type of sound. It is calm and beautifull music rather than heavy crunching and shredding (not that there is anything wrong with that). It is not about guitar soloing or great solos; there are some of those, but Bucket is doing more of the "contributing to the whole" thing as opposed to the "stand out and be noticed" thing. Its good. I like.

This is a very good disc...I\'m enjoying immensely...I think it\'s better than Unison in that it just seems a bit more spread out and varied...I\'m really gettin\' my groove on with this one ;D

Quotepoverty in the pocket book, but wealth in the soul, eh?

That sums up the Buckethead experience for me perfectly. I keep on buying as much as I possibly can, my personal economy suffering tremendously, but his music is enriching my life so much that I don\'t worry too much about it.

"Lightyears" is an amazing album by the way, well worth the money.  8)
